Spanner in the works: read news from the latest meeting
12 February, 2010 at 6:31 am | Posted in swimming | Leave a commentYou may have seen a Waltham Forest Guardian article recently which mentions the leak in the
pool’s filter we are getting repaired. Check back here at the website or sign up for our Twitter feed for updates. It’s a constantly moving picture with all interested parties – Tritons, ALM and FOTP working with the college to get it fixed. We are also getting brilliant advice from the University of East London’s Knowledge Dock. This really is now the last hurdle to be cleared before we can open. More news soon.
When we open when do you want to swim?
27 January, 2010 at 9:27 pm | Posted in swimming | Comments OffNow as ALM and the College are close to agreeing a formula to open the pool, it’s time to ask you our supporters about the times you would swim. There are still some technical issues with the pool to resolve (don’t forget it’s turned 70 years old now!) but essentially we are gearing up to opening. So now is an appropriate time to sound you out about swimming slots and fees. Everyone has their preferences and we have to get the best formula we can for all. ALM want to start with evening and weekend swim slots to begin with and so with this in mind, this is what we offer:
Two evening swims and one weekend swim. The fees would be £75 for ten weeks.
Some Considerations:
- The actual evenings are yet to be decided but Monday was the most popular evening before the closure and we think it would be better to avoid swimming on consecutive evenings.
- Saturday morning was very popular as well.
We are looking into the possibility of pool sharing with others. This has the very attractive advantages of:
- Doubling our swim time for no extra outlay.
- The double swim time provides greater flexibility for members to attend.
- More swim time for your money.
The £75 fee includes a pro rata membership fee of £5 with each swim working out at £2.50. So whether you are an existing or will be a new member that’s quite a bargain, we think.
Please let us know if you feel these suggested arrangements are ones that would you could live with and get you searching for your goggles again.
Pool will open when contract signed
24 January, 2010 at 6:15 pm | Posted in 30m swimming pool, college pool, fitness swimming, waltham forest college | Leave a commentFOTP members reported a ‘exceptionallypositive’ meeting on 14th January between college Head, Robin Jones and ALM CEO, John Allam.ALM is keen to work with FOTP, Tritons, East London Triathletes and any other groups who want to make use of this scarce resource. Some lifeguard interviews have taken place and more are scheduled.
We’re not quite home and dry yet. There is an understanding between ALM and Waltham Forest College which needs to become a contract and there’s a bit of work planned to be done on the pump. But if all goes well we could only have a very few weeks to wait before everyone can start using the pool again. We’ll post more info about likely costs, times etc after the next FOTP meeting on 26th January.
